Projects and Plans
The 14-years of civil unrest in Liberia left over a quarter of a million people dead, a huge literacy gap, including unemployment amongst youth, women and children. The population of Liberia is about 5 million wherein 44 percent is below age 14 with an 83 percent dependency, the literacy rate of age 15 and older is about 48 percent.
Also, according to USAID, Liberia is significantly behind most other African countries in nearly all educational statistics. For example, the School Net Enrollment Rate for primary age students attending schools is 44 percent.
After 14 years of civil war which destroyed much of the country’s infrastructures and trained workforce, the process of rebuilding its educational system as stalled over the years.
For every 100 students who starts primary school, only 68 transition to secondary school, and just six go on to universities or technical institutions to learn the basic skills needed for a competitive role, according to the World Bank. To help turn the tide on that disheartening stat, Changing Mindset International is embarking on building a campus in Bomi County, Liberia West Africa to offer over 400 students free training in various disciplines including Agriculture, vocational, computer literacy, as well as free networking and transitional housing.
